Avalara, provider of SaaS sales tax automation solutions, recently announced Scott Peterson was selected as Director of Government Affairs, effective Nov. 12. Peterson is the former executive director of the Streamline Sales Tax Governing Board, Inc.
“Avalara welcomes Scott as we amplify our growth and help businesses of all sizes automate the sales tax function,” said Scott McFarlane, Avalara Founder and CEO. “Additionally, if the Congress and President decide to pass and sign an online sales tax bill, we want to ensure every seller who has to obey the new law can choose their own service provider. Scott’s unmatched sales tax management perspective at the state and national level, combined with his understanding of how technology can ease the burden, will play a key role when representing Avalara’s practical solution.”
Peterson, who has extensive experience in tax administration, has served SSTGB since it was started in 2000. He has also worked for the Business Tax Division for the South Dakota Department of Revenue and Regulation as director and the South Dakota Legislature, specializing in tax policy.
Peterson is a veteran of the United States Army and graduated from Black Hill State University with his Bachelor of Science degree in political science. He received his Masters of Public Administration from the University of South Dakota.
“As sales and use tax regulation becomes more complex, the need for Avalara’s SaaS-based solution only intensifies” said Peterson. “I’m glad to join the industry leader in their quest to eliminate this pain point.”
